June 4, 2024 -- The Rotary Club of the Capital City was pleased to welcome John Cerqueira, candidate for Raleigh City Council, District E, and to hear his amazing life story.

On September 11, 2001, John, age 22, was working at the World Trade Center. Moments after the attack, amidst the urgency and confusion of the collapsing tower, he lingered to help a wheelchair-bound woman escape down a staircase. Captured in photos as he exited uninjured from ground zero, John found himself thrust into the public spotlight, appearing repeatedly on national TV.

Now a management consultant, married, a dad to a nine-year-old, and living in Raleigh, John is running again -- this time for election to the Raleigh City Council.

John believes in smart growth strategies, supporting mixed-use developments, and preserving green spaces to enhance our quality of life. As a District E Council Member, John will ensure Raleigh grows sustainably, inclusively and intentionally (www.john4raleigh.com).
